I am utterly thrilled and astounded and full of glee to announce that Stella Buio will be making its European debut at the 33rd Fantafestival in Rome, Italy! My little Italian horror homage is heading home!! Once I figure out when it is, I’ll post more details… :D

My homie who speaks Italian says it’s in June. HOLY CRAP! THAT’S NEXT MONTH!

“2013 Oscar Week: Feminism and the Oscars: Do This Year’s Best Picture Nominees Pass the Bechdel Test?” by Megan Kearns

Women’s dialogue and plotlines rarely focus on other women or even themselves. If women talk to each other, it’s usually revolving around men. This is why the Bechdel Test – while not perfect or automatically indicating feminism – matters. The Bechdel Test: film must 1) feature two named female characters, 2) who talk to each other, 3) about something other than a man.

Now the Bechdel Test doesn’t measure whether or not a film is good or even if it’s feminist or female-centric. And it’s not just about judging films on an individual basis. The Bechdel Test matters because the overwhelming majority of movies fail, indicating the institutional sexism and rampant gender disparity prevalent in Hollywood.

Yesterday, someone on Facebook reported this screencap from the short film I made with Shannon Lark (link goes to our trailer, on Facebook) as a violation of Facebook’s Community Guidelines and Facebook removed it without allowing us a rebuttal.

There is nothing wrong with this image. As a friend said to me, it’s no worse than what a figure skater wears. I’ve seen much more provocative photos of people on Facebook. She is not naked. The only flesh you see is her head and her arms. If I may say so, the only thing “bad” about this image is that this dress is gorgeous and Shannon is breathtaking in it. And by bad, I mean ”badass.”

After this image was pulled, we replaced the cover image with something else and re-posted the original version of the above image from our Facebook archive (it lacks the colour correction and final font) and included an article about how petty reports take away from actual important things that Facebook’s moderators do on both the new cover and the repost.

Very soon thereafter, a different image (which does go against Facebook policy, I readily accept that) was reported and my account was blocked. I can send messages and look at my feed, but I can’t interact. Moreover, I can’t issue an appeal because my account would have to be deactivated before that could happen.

Both of these images are promoting a short psychological horror film…so obviously we’re doing something right to have offended someone so much! ;D

This was me when I was shooting I am Monster and my co-director was directing a scene and I thought she yelled cut and I started to follow the actor out of the hallway we were in (and I was out of the shot for) only to realize, “OH SHIT! STILL FILMING!”
